Fall 2009 - Responding to Hunger
Responding to Emergency – Food shortage
This fall our community faced a widespread food shortage due to the rains coming much later than expected. The families that were hit the hardest were the poorest. The families in need are members of our various widows groups and it was decided, by the groups themselves, that to stick to the principals that we have followed and to avoid creating dependence that the food and seeds would be provided as a loan to the families.
Each family needed about $60, totalling in $1800. The majority of the funds for this initiative came from the Legacy Corporation out of Calgary’s Vincent Massy Junior High
