Legacy Commnity Development Centre
The Legacy community Development Centre, funded by the Legacy Corporation from Vincent Massey Junior High, in Calgary Alberta has begun. In March 2010 the land for this project was purchased by the Legacy Corporation and after the ground breaking ceremony the widows got to work preparing the land for the many different projects we have planned.
Agricultural projects have begun for groups 1-5 as well as the HIV group, the youth group and even the pay-it-forward students have begun a project they will do during their breaks. All of these agricultural projects will help our members generate income for their families needs as well as provide food for those families who have more need, especially in times of hardship.
We also have future plans for the group’s income generation as well as development plans that will benefit the whole community of women and children. Each group is preparing a business proposal for a cooperative project to raise money for the members families as well as funds to help make the project more self sustaining.
We already have two homes built for families without homes to live, as well as, a kitchen and a goat pen for the widows to use. A ventilated pit latrine also funded by the Legacy Corporation is now under construction and should be completed within a few weeks. We are planning on building homes for children, a shallow well for clean drinking water and a multipurpose hall that will be a meeting place, a center for coordinating various income generating projects, a place for much needed information seminars, a source of income for the groups from renting it to the community for functions and many other things.
The multipurpose hall, latrine, shallow well, homes for children, cooperative income generating projects and many more are being funded by the Legacy Corporation Students of Vincent Massey Junior High, from Calgary Alberta Canada. Without the kind and generous hearts of these young students this project would never have gotten off the ground. They are our angels
The Legacy students are currently doing a pledge drive to raise funds for all of these projects.
If you would like to see more about what Legacy has done to help us and why the our women and children now call them the angles of our village please watch this video from our recent trip to Uganda.
